Most golfers dream of smashing the ball down the middle when they tee off. The idea of hitting a ball 300 yards down the middle is beyond the means of most amateurs, but because they see Tiger Woods or Rocco Mediate do it, they dream of hitting the ball high and far. While a 300-yard may be too much to ask, a drive that flies high and deep and goes 250 yards can be accomplished with practice and the right technique
Instructions:
Step 1
Tee the ball high on an oversized tee. Most tees are 1 to 1 1/2 inches high. Tees for oversized drivers can be 2 to 2 3/4 inches high. Using the larger tees can help the golfer get lift and height when he uses his driver.
Step 2
Play the ball more forward in your stance. On a normal tee shot, the golfer should play the ball midway between his left foot and his right foot. When you are trying to get more height, play it so it is within 6 inches of your left foot.
Step 3
Take your normal swing. Most golfers who want more height will try to overpower the ball. That's a mistake. Taking a smooth and naturally paced swing will provide more than enough power. Let the club do the work and do not try to kill the ball.
Step 4
Keep your head down and your eye on the back of the ball. You probably will want to admire your shot as soon as you can, so you may have the tendency to pick your head up. That will take your eye off the target and you will likely make a mistake.
Step 5
Take your driver to the driving range and practice with it. The more you use it, the more you will feel comfortable with it. Bend your knees, keep your back straight and concentrate on a full swing without hitting it too hard.
